Rise of Orpheus: Does an Excellent Job of Bringing a Greek Myth to Life

If you enjoy slots that tell a story and are designed to a very high standard, you’re sure to appreciate Rise of Orpheus. Before playing it, I was familiar with the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, and when I gave the slot a spin, I was impressed by how well Play’n GO retold the legend through the gameplay and features.
The theming was excellent, the graphics looked great, and the animations, including those of the symbols, were of high quality. The gameplay was also enjoyable, especially since wins came around often.
Whenever the Eurydice and Orpheus symbols landed on the same spin, which happened fairly regularly, Orpheus would move over to Eurydice, with each symbol on his path potentially turning wild. This helped me win a few times in the base game; I once won 22x my bet thanks to it.
Then there was the free spins round, which was a whole lot of fun. Like the base game, it was very well designed, offering four highly themed levels that were based on the myth and a few features to make its gameplay interesting.
The first time I played it, I managed to reach the fourth and final level and won a staggering 176x my bet. This was thanks to the Orpheus symbol, which was present on every spin, leaving guaranteed wilds in its wake whenever it moved over to Eurydice symbols.
I got to play the free spins round a second time, though I didn’t get past the first level and only won 4x, which was nothing compared to my previous win. Having said that, I know from experience that the round has incredibly high win potential.
If you’re thinking of playing Rise of Orpheus, which I think you should, remember that while I was very lucky, you might not have as much luck. Still, there’s a decent chance the round will turn out good for you.
PROS - Free spins can be extremely lucrative
- Brilliant theming, animations, and design features
- Tells the Orpheus and Eurydice myth in creative ways
CONS
King of Sweets
Hit flavour frenzy and got a 467 win on a 10 bet. Not massive but still felt nice with all the wilds popping off. The game has a chill pace and candy vibes. Solid if you’re not chasing crazy multipliers every spin.
Treats of Terror
I played this on a lunch break and liked the theme at first, but it didn’t hold my attention. Hit a few coin collects but payouts felt low. The free spins were decent but took a while to trigger. Not scary at all, just silly.
Fire Joker 100
Fire Joker 100 feels like a visual refresh more than a real step forward. The x100 multiplier sounds big, but hitting it is rare. I had a couple of okay wins, but nothing memorable.
King of Sweets
Gameplay is fine if you're into the cluster-style grid. The unicorn wild is fun to watch but doesn’t really pay that much unless you're lucky with the tiles. Feels like a rehash with candy skins, but it runs smooth at least.
Dragonfates Favor
Landed a 93 win on a 10 bet which felt fair. Features didn’t pop off much, but at least something came back. The dragon design’s great, but the excitement doesn't really last long.
Fire Joker 100
It keeps things very basic—stack symbols, hope for respins or the multiplier wheel. I did land 3 jokers once with a x2 multiplier for a 70 win on a 10 bet. Not bad, but it still gets repetitive fast.
